🏡 Stamp Duty Exemption for First Home Buyers in Victoria (2025 Update)

If you’re a first home buyer in Victoria, there’s some good news you could save tens of thousands thanks to the stamp duty exemption and concession available in 2025.

Stamp duty (or land transfer duty) is one of the biggest upfront costs when buying a home. The good news is, if you’re eligible, you might not have to pay it at all.

💰 Full Exemption – Properties Up to $600,000

If you’re buying your first home and the purchase price is $600,000 or less, you’ll pay no stamp duty.

That’s a saving of up to $31,070  which is huge when you’re trying to stretch every dollar to get into the market.

⚖ Concession – Properties Between $600,001 and $750,000

If your home’s value is between $600,001 and $750,000, you’ll get a partial concession.

The closer you are to $600k, the bigger the discount. Once you pass $750k, the benefit phases out completely.

đŸ‘€ Who’s Eligible

To qualify for the exemption or concession in Victoria, you’ll need to:
✅ Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
✅ Not have owned property in Australia before
✅ Use the property as your main home

If you’re buying with a partner, you both need to meet the criteria.
